Gearing Up for College
If you’re like many students, you’re probably planning to go to college. If so, it’s recommended that you start planning as early as possible. Although starting in your junior year of high school is considered the norm, freshmen and sophomores can also benefit from getting an early start. Not sure where to begin? Here’s a list of things to do: 1. Get an early start — It’s never too early to begin thinking about college. Talk to your counselor and be sure that you are enrolled in the classes required for college. You may find that college admission requirements are different than your graduation requirements. 2. Explore career paths — Knowing what career you want to pursue will help you determine which colleges you should consider. 3. Choose a college — Focus on colleges that truly fit your needs. Although many students dream of going to an Ivy League school, there are outstanding alternatives to the “big name” and expensive universities. 4. Get ready for your tests — Most U.S. colleges require scores from standardized tests such as the ACT Assessment®, SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject Test. Speak to your counselor to determine which tests you will need to take, and how best to prepare for them. 5. Learn about payment options —There are many ways to help make college affordable. With a little research, you should be able to find scholarships, grants, loans and other assistance to help you pay for your education.
